VETERAN'S STORY
Patrick John Conway

Navy Vet Of 22 years

Patrick John Conway was born October 30th 1956 and Died on April 2nd 2018. He was born in Crystal, Minnesota. He was born to Daniel Conway and Cleo King. His family has a history of military service all the way back to his first relative to live in the US who came here from Ireland.

Patrick enlisted in 1977 and was honorably discharged in 1999. He served during the gulf war on the USS vincennes. During his time on the vincennes the ship’s crew shot down a civilian airliner. According to Patrick the plane wasn’t full of living people when it was shot down and it had been flying dangerously close to the vincennes in a manner that would be considered combative. From his statement this plane had been on a mission intended to harm his ship and was disguised as a civilian plane. The offical statement was that the military had made a mistake and they ended up paying reparations.

Overall other than this my father patrick never shared anything about his military service with me. I know he was at the rank of PO1/E6 and he worked on Sh-60 seahawks. But unfortunately this is all I know, I did find the attached pictures of his time on the vincennes. He also received a number of awards but I have been unable to track them down. But overall he did a great service to his country like many of his family.
