VETERAN'S STORY
Sean Nonamaker

Sean Nonamaker was raised in Abilene Kansas and joined the Air Force in 2007, after taking a few years of college. He recalls basic training as being really stressful with not a lot of sleep. Before deployment Nonamaker had to go to a 5 week long ground combat readiness training, which he would have to repeat before his second tour. Nonamaker served in the Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa, Iraqi Freedom, and Newdawn. During his first tour he was a part of Security Forces and during his second tour he was on the QRF team, which is like a mobile swat, there he would also be assigned to listening and observation posts, and trained local police. Nonamaker also talked about playing cards and telling stories while down range to pass the time. Before his second tour in 2011, Nonamaker went to San Antonio, Texas, for K9 training, there he met his wife. He received many citations and medals with his K9 unit during his second tour. After serving two tours, he went to a 12-15 week training that was for presidential missions, where he would secure buildings for President Obama and Hillary as Secretary of State. After his service ended on February 4, 2014, Nonamaker got into a doctorate program at Pacific University and got his teaching degree. He joined the Yamhill County Veterans Group and continues to be in touch with the men and women he served with.
