1st Lieutenant John H. Trulock Jr., an 8th Air Force fighter pilot, received the Distinguished Service Cross from General Carl Spaatz. Lieutenant Trulock "with complete disregard for his own safety and determination to assist his comrades at any cost," came to the aid of a fellow fighter pilot who was being attacked by two enemy fighters. Although he had expended all his ammunition previously he tried to ram his adversaries 3 different times.
