Willard Roscco Haley
Born May 12, 1945, in Caliente, Nevada. Died August 23, 2008, in Corvallis Oregon from lung cancer.
Was a Shipfitter (pipefitter) Petty officer 2nd class on the Navy ship, USS Yorktown or “ The Fighting Lady”.
Worked during Vietnam war, Yorktown destroyed many islands like Marcus Island, Marianas, Marshall Islands, New Guinea, Carolines, Okinawa, Iwo Jima, Philippines, and Indo-china.
The fighting lady’s bombing Squad had the first strikes on Japan. Yorktown was never sunk or destroyed by enemies. Got 11 battle stars in WW2 and was first an aircraft carrier, then an attack carrier and finally an anti-submarine carrier. And was used a recovery ship for Apollo 8.
